Terms of Service
Last updated September 14, 2026
These are the terms for using Author Tools and for working with The Writing Wives on your Meta advertising. They are short on purpose. By using the tools or engaging us, you agree to them.
1. Who and what
"We" are The Writing Wives, Malorie and Jill Cooper, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada. "Author Tools" means authortools.net and its subdomains: Book Mockup Studio, Graph Lens, Ad Image Studio, Ad Video Studio and the shared sign-in at account.authortools.net, together with the connector that lets an AI assistant use them on your behalf. "Advertising services" means the Facebook and Instagram advertising we create and manage for clients. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your information and is part of these terms.
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract to use the tools. If you use them for a company or an author you work for, you confirm you are allowed to bind them to these terms.
2. Accounts, membership and credits
- Sign-in. You sign in with a link we email you. Anyone with access to your inbox can use that link, so keep it secure and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
- Membership. The member tools are a benefit of membership in The Writing Wives community on Skool. Membership itself, its price and its cancellation are governed by Skool and by the community's own terms. When a membership ends, access to the member tools ends with it; your library and reels stay in your account for 90 days so you can come back, then may be deleted.
- Credits. Member tools that use our servers or outside AI services spend credits from a monthly allowance set by your tier. Credits reset each month, do not carry over, have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and are not refunded when a job you asked for completes. If a job fails on our side the credits are returned. We may change what things cost and the allowances, and will say so in the community when we do.
- Connectors. If you connect an AI assistant through our connector, everything it does in your account counts as done by you, including spending credits. You can revoke the connection at any time from your account.
3. Your content
Everything you upload or make with the tools stays yours: your covers, pictures, clips, manuscripts, copy and reels. You give us a licence to store, process, display and transmit that content only as needed to run the tools for you, including sending the relevant parts to the AI providers named in the Privacy Policy to do the job you asked for. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups, which are purged within 30 days.
You are responsible for having the rights to what you upload. Upload only books, images and clips you own or are licensed to use for marketing, and make sure anything showing a real person is something you are allowed to use.
4. AI-generated material
Copy, images and clips produced by the AI features are generated for you and you may use them in your own marketing without further permission from us. Please understand what that does and does not mean:
- Generated material can be wrong, off-brand, or similar to material generated for someone else. Read it, look at it, and change it before you publish it. You are responsible for anything you put in front of readers or advertisers.
- We do not promise that generated material is original, free of third-party rights, or acceptable to any platform. Copyright in purely AI-generated material is unsettled in many countries; we make no claim either way.
- Some platforms and some jurisdictions require you to say when advertising contains AI-generated or altered media. Meeting those requirements is your responsibility; the tools do not add disclosures for you.
- Prompts for pictures and clips are screened automatically before anything is generated. A blocked prompt is kept for our review. Trying to get around the screening is a breach of these terms and ends your access.
5. What you may not do
- Make or attempt to make sexual content involving minors, or content that sexualises anyone who appears to be a minor. There are no exceptions and we will report it where the law requires.
- Upload material you do not have the rights to, or that is defamatory, harassing, or unlawful.
- Use the tools to deceive people: impersonation, fake reviews, or ads that break the platform's rules.
- Share your account or member access with people who are not members, resell the tools, or scrape or overload our servers.
- Reverse-engineer the tools or try to get at other members' data.
6. Advertising services for clients
When we manage ads for you, the specifics — scope, fees, duration, reporting — are set out in the proposal or agreement we send you, and that document governs if it differs from these terms. Unless it says otherwise:
- The ad account, its payment method and the ad spend are yours. You pay Meta directly for the ads; our fee is for our work.
- You grant us access to your ad account and pages through Meta Business Manager. You can remove that access at any time, and we will remove ourselves when our work ends.
- You approve the books, copy and creative we advertise, and you are responsible for the accuracy of claims about your books and for having the rights to the creative.
- Advertising results depend on many things outside our control — Meta's auction, your book, your covers, the season. We will work hard and report honestly; we cannot guarantee sales, page reads or a return on ad spend.
- We keep performance reports for at most about a year (see the Privacy Policy) and share them only with you.
7. The free tools
Book Mockup Studio and Graph Lens are free for anyone, no account needed, and are provided as they are. We may add, change or retire free tools at any time.
8. Availability and changes
We run a small service on our own infrastructure and we do have downtime now and then. We may change the tools, their features and these terms; when a change matters we will say so in the community and update the date on this page. Continuing to use the tools after a change means you accept it.
9. Ending things
You can stop using the tools and ask us to delete your account and data at any time (see Delete your data). We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if your membership ends, or if we stop offering a tool; where practical we will give you a chance to download your work first. Sections 3, 4, 10 and 11 survive the end of your access.
10. Disclaimers and liability
The tools and our advertising services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows us to exclude them.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, lost profits or lost sales, or loss of data, arising from your use of the tools or our services. Our total liability to you for anything arising out of these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim and CAD $100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
You agree to cover us against claims by third parties that arise from content you uploaded or advertised in breach of these terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Saskatchewan and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes will be heard in the courts of Saskatchewan, though we would much rather sort things out by email first. If you are a consumer in a place whose law gives you protections these terms cannot take away, you keep them.
